I've been resisting by writing a book about the Gaza genocide, which was published last week, and which includes case studies of students and faculty, including you, who have resisted in the face of serious consequences:

I've also started a Substack focusing mostly on academic freedom issues related to the Gaza genocide. Here's the most recent, explaining how I came to write this book: https://davidmoshman867648.substack.com/p/gaza-genocide-and-academic-freedom

thank you. you are a light in this darkness. thank you too for the book recommendation. Nothing ever seems enough, but I am encountering more solidarity in the Indigenous spaces I spend time in, far more than on campus or daily life. I can't get over the fact that everyone is not outraged, every day. or how fast they want to shut down anyone who speaks up

Your contribution to the cause is not a small one, Maura.

Though I am dismayed by the lack of others standing up in public against Israel, I am invigorated and inspired to continue my daily demonstrating on the sidewalk by the many appreciative comments I get. Today I am introducing a new sign that stretches my rule about not putting too many words on a sign. It says: "Friends of the IDF is a US Public Charity - Donations are Tax Deductible - OUTRAGE!" On my back I like to wear a simple message that shows the Israeli flag in red with the caption, "RED With the Blood of Thousands"

I've reached 20 months of doing this and have steadily expanded the number of locations where I appear. It is gratifying when strangers will say they have seen me around and that they agree with my messaging. The other day a man came up to me on the sidewalk and said, "are you Clif?"

We are definitely not the country of patriots we were at the time of the American Revolution, but the shift in public opinion, a tsunami among the young, is makes me optimistic for the future. An occasional dip into social media, Instagram, shows how many are outraged and speaking out. I'm proud to represent my generation who one would never know was the generation that stood out so strongly against the Vietnam War.
